Sustainable Resource Management (M.Sc.)

The international Master of Science Program 'Sustainable Resource Management' prepares students for professional work in the various fields of resource management. They will learn important concepts and techniques for sustainable management and acquire special management skills. This program addresses the full spectrum of natural resource management including landscape planning, plant, water and wildlife resources and the scientific methods of resource management like systems analysis and inventory methods. It takes students well beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines, such as forestry and agriculture. The program includes important leadership and management skills such as rhetorics, project management and conflict facilitation. The program is designed for 4 semesters. The first semester (October - February) covers a first set of compulsory introductory and basic courses. The second semester (April-August) comprises the main part of the fields of concentration (2 out of 8 are chosen). In the third semester (October - February), the concentrations will be concluded and some further compulsory courses will be taught. The master`s thesis is written during the fourth semester (April-August). A two-month internship abroad is part of the program. A combination of master`s thesis and internship is recommended, but voluntary. The Master of Science in Sustainable Resource Management starts in the winter semester. Education for Sustainable Development

 

In 2002 the United Nations (UN) proclaimed the years 2005 to 2014 the World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. International initiatives in this area intend to help embed the principles of sustainable development in education worldwide. UNESCO has been appointed the international lead agency for the Decade. On the basis of a unanimous resolution of the German Parliament, the German Commission for UNESCO (DUK) is implementing the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development in Germany with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development in Germany is being implemented under the patronage of the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The international Master’s Program “Sustainable Resource Management” is awarded as an "Official German Project for the UN Decade" (2006/07; 2013/14).
